Woman’s Football ready for 2015/16 action

The preceding season of 2014/15 has been a challenging and trying one but none –the- less, these women are not letting any obstacle come in their way of allowing all girls and women to participate in this beautiful game.
The league continues to aspire to serve its mission of providing quality programs to ensure all female participate in the sport.
The previous season saw seven teams with the likes of Tupuji, Ifira, Tafea, Westam, Malampa,Lopatu and Shepherds in the charter and eventually two teams dropping out towards the end of the year and VFF’s U20 Academy team joining the competition.
With the continuous struggle of securing a field in the past years , the former Minister of Lands and now Member of Parliament , Ralph Reganvanu handed over the Freshwater Soccer Field to VFF earlier this year with conditions to be used for Womens’ soccer for which the league is immensely grateful. Post TC Pam caused delays and activities took a while to resume but eventually with the assistance of VFF Womens’ Soccer Development Officer, Joel Rarua and equipment from OFC, the Open League competition proved to be very good rehabilitation for the athletes during this recovery phase.
To close the season, the prestigious 2014/15 Championship Cup was awarded to Malampa FC, runners-up being Westam and Shepherds FC respectively. Melisha Wakareth from Malampa FC received Top Scorer Award. Much gratitude is extended to TVL who was the major sponsor for these awards and also to Graphic Image for having the accolades ready on time.
Along with the presentation were sports equipment that was donated to the league for all teams from the Bales family from Australia, who were travelling to Vanuatu for a holiday after the cyclone and communicated via face book saying they wanted to help.
Air Vanuatu is also to be commended for allowing them free excess to bring all the goods. Open League winner was Malampa FC again, who represented Port Vila in Luganville’s Open League Grand Final against the northern town’s winners, Torba FC. During this event, the U20 Academy team were also represented for exposure and preparation for their upcoming Oceania Tournament in October.
PVWFL would like to extend its gratitude to VFF and PVFA, its partners and sponsors for the continuous support. Acknowledgement to clubs, club managements and team members for participation and of course the tireless executive members who commit payless hours to ensure that all programs are carried out accordingly.
With this note, the new season is beginning on Saturday 19th September 2015 at Freshwater Field with the league’s first club meeting on the usual Monday at Port Vila Stadium 12-1pm.
