Basic Referee’s course open

The course was official open this morning at Port Vila Football Association conference room by the League office secretary Bong Shem.
“PVFA is looking for persons interested in becoming certified referees and assistant referees of Port Vila to officiate in local football matches.”
“We always need referees to help the League to move forward with the right information of the Laws of the game and today I want to stay that Port Vila Football is very happy to see you all here.”
“Your time in this course is very important and we will support you all with your dreams to become a good referee in Vanuatu.”
The course is open to all interested men and women, who wants to become referees and assistant referees and three ladies turns up this monring and 12 men for the opening.
Course Instructor is former FIFA Referee and Assisant Referee Lencie Fred. Mr. Lencie Fred was the first Vanuatu Assisant referee who officiated in the Olympic Games grand final in 1996 between Nigeria and Argentina, FIFA Confederation Cup in 1997 and officiate in the FIFA World Cup in France 98.
Referees perform a vital role in football as they ensure safety, fairness, equality and enjoyment. With the growth in football\’s popularity, particularly among women and youths, the demand for officials is always increasing.
Joining the ranks of the local referee organisation could provide an opportunity to sit on the FIFA international panel of referees.
All sessions will run from 8am to 5 p.m. each day until Thursday and is proudly sponsored by Port Vila Football Association and ASCO Motors.
