In Praise Of Sika

Last Saturday, in a packed stadium in Port Vila, Tafea young striker Sika Manuhi came on as a substitute, stepped in the field of play and scores Tafea’s winning goal in 88 minutes with a superb volley shot.
Spirit 08 FC were 1-0 lead when their deadly striker Bernard Daniel found the back of Tafea’s net in 70 minutes but Tafea’s hit man Nichols Tari had done more than any other player to bring the Reds to the brink, scoring a great goal in the 80th minute to draw level with Spirit at 1-1.
There looked to be no way back for Tafea, but their young big-game specialist Sika was brought in by Coach Moise Poida in 76 minutes.
When it was still level after for extra times, the 19-year-old from North Pentecost, Sika Manuhi who makes a habit of scoring crucial goals did so again, sliding home the winner and giving Tafea its first Cup in 2012.
Goal scorer Sika raced across the field to celebrate with his teammate as the former champions march on to a wonderful victory against Spirit.
Tafea coach Moise Poida said after the match, “During the pool matches we put together a team without our top players. We don’t have any great stars. But the team spirit is excellent that’s why we won the Cup.”
“The way we turned things around against Spirit 08 last Saturday, I think we deserve this trophy,” Concluded the happy coach.
Tafea’s first game in the TVL Premier League this Saturday 15 September 2012 is against Tupuji Imere at 11am.
