With only two months to 2017 OFC Champion’s league, the Malampa
Revivors Football Club have shown interest in Percy Avock a local
coach based in New Caledonia, as time ticks to showtime in Auckland
New Zealand in March.
Percy is a former national team player and is known in the region as
AS Mont-Dore coach and favored for his diploma in Sports attained in
France years back.
Hailed from the Yatel Football Club days in Port Vila, Percy now
resides in Noumea where he runs a small electrical company and his
passion for football and Vanuatu brought him to Santo last month to
assess the needs of team Malampa which is coached and played by some
of his close relatives.
He was last sighted in Vanuatu in 2012 coaching team Vanuatu to the
OFC Nations Cup in Honiara in Solomon Islands where their campaign
ends miserably in the pool stages due to lack of preparations.
If all goes well, he will be the Malampa head coach to O-League
assisted by long time Revivors coach and well know Elder from the
Sarakata Centenary Church, Steve Ham, and longtime assistant coach
Peter Jacob.Percy started conducting trainings with Malampa on the 29th of
December, and can be summarized as 6 days of very high intensive
training to kick-start a late schedule to keep the team in motion.
“I expect players from other member associations who were listed to
join the team to start moving to Luganville before we decide on the
final O-League team”, he said during a ceremony before he left for New
Caledonia last week for a break.
Malampa pre-squad are mostly current players with listed recruits from
8 member associations, a new composition designed by a technical team
of coaches in Luganville.
“I have trust in the current team and also our weaknesses must be
considered important as well, and if we need to recruit we must do so
before any late arrangements”, he said.
Malampa first qualified for the Champions League in the 2015 National
Super League after a dramatic victory over Ifira Black Bird by 2-1 in
the semi-final, and thus securing a spot, despite losing to Amicale FC
in the final by 3-0.
Malampa Revivors is in Pool C of the Champion’s league with tournament
favorites Auckland City, Lae City Dwellers and Western United Football
There are 4 pools in this final stages of this tournament hosted by
New Caledonia, Tahiti and New Zealand.
